2025 / Comparative studies in literature: today and tomorrow

Tekstualia 2025, no 1 (80)

After the World War Two the comparative approach to humanistic and literary studies broadened the field of its reflection to include a comparison of literary works with other cultural texts and discourses arising within various areas of human activity and fields of knowledge and expressing themselves through various media. Still, new challenges constantly emerge in comparative literature – the oldest and best cognitively established strand in the discipline, related to civilisational changes, migration processes, tensions between the local and the global, geopolitical upheavals that significantly affect the nature and shape of literature. Bearing in mind the previous achievements of comparative literature, the volume we will reflect on the categories that are cognitively relevant today, and the ones that are likely to remain pertinent in the future. Among the issues that are to be discussed in the volume we suggest: translingualism, multiculturalism, categories of world literature confronted with the historically documented presence of Polish literature in the world, mapping international literary relations and formal transfers between literatures. The volume will also include studies on the intersection of comparative literary studies and translation studies, such as studies on translations of Polish and world literature into regional languages.

Deadline for submissions: 10 January 2025.
