The article offers a comparative analysis of Witold Gombrowicz’s Pornography and William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. Shakespeare’s play provides a framework for a reinterpretation Gombrowicz’s late work. Previous readings of Pornography have focused mainly on Nietzschean intertexts. Analysing Pornography through references to Measure for Measure allows us to see this novel as a political treatise addressing the phenomenon of biopolitics.
