The aim of the present article is to discuss a play Mad Forest. A Play from Romania by the contemporary British playwright Caryl Churchill as an attempt to enter into an intercultural dialogue. The play is based on the events of the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which led to the end of the Communist rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu. The author went to Romania to collect eyewitness reports to convey accurately the atmosphere of these dramatic days. At the same time, however, the playwright implemented an array of authorial strategies to emphasize her position of an outsider who describes the reality she does not understand. As a result, the play vividly depicts the time of instability and political unrest, while simultaneously it shows that any attempt to approach a different culture is accompanied by a sense of epistemological uncertainty.
