Tekstualia attempts to bring together issues relating to literature, the visual arts, and scholarship in the humanities.
Our aims include: the popularization of outstanding literary works; promotion of emerging writers; and presentation of the work of both established and emerging scholars. The journal was recognized by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage: in the periods 2006 to 2010 and 2012 to 2014, Tekstualia received support within the operational programs “Promocja czytelnictwa” (Promoting Reading) and “Literatura i czytelnictwo” (Literature and Readership). In the years 2015 to 2017, the journal will receive support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
In 2009, Tekstualia was added to the list of journals awarded points by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (decision of July 16, 2009). Since 2009, the journal has been involved in the project entitled “Review within Review” (“Czasopismo w czasopiśmie”). Our partners are literary and literary-critical journals published in Central and South-Eastern Europe (countries of the Visegrad Group – the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary – and, inter alia, Slovenia and Austria). In the years 2012 to 2014, the journal, in cooperation with the Faculty of Polish Studies of the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Languages and Literature of the University of Gdańsk, implemented the Ministry of Science and Higher Education project entitled Index Plus. This resulted in the publication of two English-language numbers of the journal and a substantial broadening of its international readership. The first number is made up of some of the most important scholarly-critical articles published in the journal between 2007 and 2012. The second number is devoted to three outstanding Polish writers: Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy), Witold Gombrowicz, and Bruno Schulz.
Tekstualia is the only journal in Poland to bring together Polish and foreign literature (prose and poetry), and also Polish and non-Polish humanities (literary studies, comparative literary studies, cultural studies, and history of philosophy). Individual numbers are organized around specific themes.
