Wirpsza Aleksander
(University of Warsaw), (1946-2024), Prof. PhD hab., history of literature scholar, translator (German and Russian), literary critic, poet, prose writer. He has won numerous awards. He works as the editor for the Nowaja Polsza monthly and as a professor at the University of Warsaw. In 1970s and 1980s he was an editor for Polish underground press. He worked with the Polish section of Radio Free Europe (1979–1989). In 1979 he began his cooperation with the Kultura monthly, and at the end of the magazine’s activity, he held the post of the director of the poetry section. When he was living in West-Berlin (1987–1990), he co-operated with the Polish sections of the BBC, the Deutsche Welle, and emigration magazines. He returned to Poland in 2003. In 2008 he published a novel entitled Zdjęcie. He also wrote the following poetry books: Wiersze (1980), Nie ma poezji (1981), Pudło (1981), Czas morowy (1982), Przez zaciśnięte zęby (1986), Mgły (1987), Po wszystkim (1991), Klucz od przepaści (1994), Skupienie (1996), Każdy jest kimś (2000), Panu Tadeuszowi (2001), Mówienia (2004), and Blag (2008). Moreover, he is the author of the syncretic books Przed burzą (2001), Wymysły (2005). His recent works include e.g.: Wybór z Księgi. Cykle sylwiczne, fragmenty, wiersze (2016).
