Nikolayevich Veselovsky Alexander
(Saint Petersburg State University), (1838– 1906), SD, leading literary theorist, former Chair of the Department of Literature at the Saint Petersburg State University. He is the creator of the historical-comparative method. His research laid the groundwork for comparative literary studies (though his work has been largely forgotten by Western scholarship).
