Knowlson James
(University of Reading), PhD, retired professor of French Studies, founder of the Beckett International Foundation and of the Journal of Beckett Studies. He has made a major contribution to establishing the collection of Beckett’s works at the University of Reading as the largest collection dedicated to Beckett in the world. He is the author of numerous publications regarding Beckett’s works, for example: Images of Beckett (with John Haynes, 2003), Beckett Remembering /Remembering Beckett (with his wife, Elizabeth Knowlson, 2006). He was a friend of Samuel Beckett for the last 19 years of the writer’s life. He also wrote Beckett’s sole authorized biography entitled Damned to Fame. The Life of Samuel Beckett (1996) – an excerpt of translation (by Katarzyna Kręglewska) of the book has been published in Tekstualia (thanks to the cooperation of Between.Research and Beckett Research Group in Gdańsk).
