Adelgejm Irina

(1971), born in Moscow. In 1992 she graduated from Slavic studies at Moscow State University, in 1995 she defended her doctoral thesis, and in 2005 she obtained the title of habilitated doctor. She works at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. She studies Polish literature, issues of Polish-Russian literary relationships and stereotypes. A lot of her works are devoted to the problems of Polish Romanticism and positivism, Polish cinema and the theory of translation. She is an outstanding and highly regarded translator of Polish literature into Russian. She has translated, among others, works by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński, Paweł Huelle, Andrzej Stasiuk, Wojciech Tochman, Tadeusz Różewicz, Olga Tokarczuk, Mariusz Wilk, Magdalena Tulli, Ewa Kuryluk, Kazimierz Orłoś, Tadeusz Słobodzianek, Hanna Krall, Marek Bieńczyk, Justyna Bargielska,, Ignacy Karpowicz, and many others. Honoured with the "Polish Pegasus" (2011) and the "Golden Cross of Merit" (2013) for her achievements in promoting Polish prose and culture in Russia.
